How It Works

Go to "Where's My Refund?"
Visit the IRS refund tool, or use the IRS2Go mobile app.

Enter three things
Your Social Security number, your filing status, and the exact refund amount from your return.

See your status
It shows one of three stages: Return Received, Refund Approved, or Refund Sent.
Timing: E-filed returns usually update within 24 hours. Mailed paper returns can take about 4 weeks before any status shows up at all. Most refunds are issued within 21 days of e-filing.
If it's been much longer than 21 days, call us and we can help you figure out what's going on.
